Plane-Bird Strike Damage Reveals Scary Drone Hit Potential

A recent bird strike between a Yakovlev 50 airplane and a Red Tailed Hawk has shown just how much damage a small, light object can do to an aircraft.

The Yakovlev 50 collided with the bird on takeoff at approximately 290 km/h.

DJI’s Phantom 4 Series drone is one of the most popular consumer drones available, having helped balloon the recreational drone market to a multi-billion dollar industry in just a few years.

A Phantom 4 also weighs about the same as a Red Tailed Hawk.

But unlike the soft, gooey hawk a Phantom 4 is made of hard bits that could do even more damage to an aircraft.

Just a reminder of the importance of respecting flight ceilings and no-fly-zones near airfields.

All that was found of the hawk was one wing.
