Barcelona – Earlier today DJI Global released official details on their Youtube channel revealing that their new drone is a Matrice 200.
Teased to us in images ahead of this week’s Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona, many started to speculate immediately on what the new drone would be. A new model altogether or an upgrade for one of the existing models?
While some wondered if it was an Inspire 2 upgrade to Pro or an all new Inspire 3, others suggested it could even be a Phantom 5. So it turns out those guesses were close, but no cigar.
The Matrice 200 is labelled as Built To Endure, which we take to mean, along with the ‘series’ moniker that it’s intended to be a core drone platform for DJI.
7 KM Range
With massive 17 propellers to help ensure stable flight in strong winds, it also has the electronic muscle in its dual battery system for up to 38 minutes if flight time and a 7 km operating range with a top speed of 23 m/s, just slightly faster than it’s predecessor.
Interestingly, the new Matrice 200 has 2 minutes less flight time than the Matrice 100.
Built In Battery Heater
DJI has also built in an automatic battery heating system to maximize flight ability in sub-zero temperatures as low as -20C.
Lasty, as a workhorse the Matrice 200 can handle up to 2kg (4.4lbs) of payload, however this comes with significantly diminished flight time of only 13 minutes.
DJI has taken the expertise they’ve developed on the folding arms of the Mavic Pro drone and applied it to the new Matrice 200 as well. Folded down for storage makes the Matrice 200 a compact 716mm x 220mm x 236mm.
Built for both of DJI’s single or double camera gimbals the Matrice 200 is designed to accept a range of 3rd party add-ons.
Pricing not yet available from DJI. Stay tuned for more details as they come in. Here’s DJI’s video, released on their Youtube channel today, announcing the new DJI Matrice 200:
DJI is targetting the 2nd Quarter of 2017 for M200 shipping, with pre-order availble now through official DJI Dealers or direct to DJI.
Based on the 3rd party issues with Mavic shipments we suggest ordering direct from DJI.
